Patrick Meyer Sauteur is a pediatrician and infectious diseases specialist and works as a consultant in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University Children’s Hospital Zurich in Switzerland (https://www.kispi.uzh.ch/). He obtained his MD degree at the University of Zurich and his PhD degree with honors at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. He received his venia legendi (Habilitation) in Pediatrics / Pediatric Infectious Diseases in 2021 from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zurich.

He leads the pediatric infectious diseases research group at the University Children’s Hospital Zurich. His research focuses on pneumonia and respiratory tract infections, and on atypical bacteria (i.e., Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Borrelia burgdorferi, Treponema pallidum). The current aim of his research is to develop new diagnostic tools to better understand disease pathogenesis and to assess the effect of antimicrobial treatment. He recently received funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) under the IICT call to conduct a multi-center randomized controlled non-inferiority trial of placebo versus macrolide antibiotics for Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection in children with community-acquired pneumonia (https://mythic-study.ch/en/), which started in January 2025 and will recruit patients over a planned 4 years.
