Code blue events outside of the ICU setting are rare. Nurses do not formally learn resuscitation skills besides a CPR course every 2 years and do not learn or practice various roles in a code situation. When code blues are called, chaos often ensues based on lack of confidence and competence with skills and lack of role clarity. Lastly, communication to the arriving code team is often not succinct and/or effective.
