Jacqueline M. Saito, MD, MSCI, MBA is the Chief Quality and Safety Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC. Clinically, she is a pediatric surgeon with expertise in pediatric minimally invasive surgery. In her roles at Children’s National Hospital, she oversees quality improvement, safety, infection control, accreditation/regulatory, environmental safety, disaster preparedness, and the Medical Staff Office teams. Dr. Saito is a leader in quality measurement/improvement, evidence-based care implementation, supply standardization, and clinical integration/clinician engagement within diverse care settings and across specialties. At the national level, she has contributed to the American College of Surgeons Children’s Surgery Program, including serving as Chair of the Data Committee which oversees National Surgical Quality Improvement Program-Pediatric (ACS NSQIP-Pediatric), directed toward assessing hospital-wide risk-adjusted 30-day postoperative outcomes, and contributing to revision of the ACS Children’s Surgery Verification Program standards which aim to ensure safe, high quality surgical care for children. She currently co-leads the Children’s Hospital’s Solution for Patient Safety (SPS) colorectal surgical site infection initiative. Dr. Saito has served as site principal investigator for several multi-institutional clinical research projects related to pediatric surgical outcomes and antimicrobial stewardship.
