Andrea Spencer

Andrea Spencer, MD, is a child psychiatrist, ADHD expert, and pediatric mental health disparities researcher who is passionate about identifying and addressing root causes of mental health inequities to improve mental health for children. She has expertise using qualitative and quantitative methods to uncover the mechanisms fueling and exacerbating disparities in care and develop interventions to target these mechanisms. Dr. Spencer has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Charles H. Hood Foundation, and Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation for clinical research projects to develop interventions to reduce disparities in ADHD treatment, and to study the impact of social determinants of health and discrimination on children with ADHD. Dr. Spencer is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Adult Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in music from Yale College in 2003 and received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 2008. She completed the five year combined residency program in Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital/McLean Hospital.
